Striving for Science C33
"Who's in charge of network security at your company?" Shen Chang'an asked as he and Ding Yang stepped into the elevator. Wu Wei, trailing behind them, timidly pressed the floor button. Hearing Shen Chang'an's question, he lowered his head even further. "Me."
Shen Chang'an turned his head to look at him: "Didn't you check the computer system?"
"I was sick and resting when they invited the master a few days ago." Ding Yang felt embarrassed to look at Shen Chang'an. "When I came back, they had already invited the master, taken pictures, and the news had already spread online."
"Before, your company's production line machines had problems. Did you find any problems with the operating system?"
"I, I didn't find anything." Wu Wei's face turned red. As a technical person, he couldn't find the problem with the system, and he let the company invite a master to exorcise the computer, making it known to the whole internet. He was really embarrassed to face Shen Chang'an.
The elevator arrived. Shen Chang'an stepped out of the elevator and saw the staff sitting lazily in the office. When they saw them coming in, the staff slowly got up to greet them.
"Where's your workstation?" Shen Chang'an scanned the office. In the corner, a young male employee was working at his desk. His earnestness and diligence were unlike anyone else in the office.
"Chang'an." Wu Wei pushed open the office door. "This is where I work."
"Alright, I'll take a look." Shen Chang'an sat down in the chair, his fingers tapping on the keyboard, so fast that only shadows remained.
The other colleagues saw Wu Wei bring in two strangers, one of whom seemed to be very familiar with him, so they asked what was going on.
"They are staff from the Civil Service Department, they're here for the exorcism." Wu Wei whispered to the chattering colleagues. "Keep it down, don't disturb him. My classmate is much better than me."
"I don't know if he's better, but he looks pretty cool typing." A female colleague stared at Shen Chang'an for a while and came to this conclusion.
"Everyone, be serious." Wu Wei was afraid that his colleagues would affect Shen Chang'an's performance, so he quickly gestured for them to be quiet and whispered, "If my friend can help solve the company's problems, we won't have to listen to the other branches' gossip at the quarterly meeting."
After their company suddenly received a large number of orders, they tried to get goods from other branches. However, all the branches said they didn't have much stock, and some even mocked them, saying what's the use of getting so many goods, maybe before the delivery deadline, consumers will regret their impulsive purchase and apply for a refund.
They were furious, but the company's current situation made them unable to refute.
The company's general manager heard that the Civil Service Department staff had arrived and rushed back from outside. Seeing a crowd of people gathered at the door of Wu Wei's office, he frowned and said, "What are you all crowding here for?" He had been begging everywhere to rent a production line,
"Good morning, General Manager." The colleagues who were watching the show saw the general manager come back and stepped aside, making way for him.
"General Manager, the Civil Service Department staff are here. They're in brother Wu's office." An employee whispered in reply.
"In Xiao Wu's office?" The general manager looked at Wu Wei in confusion and whispered, "Why did you take them to your office?"
"One of the two staff members is my college classmate, a top student." Wu Wei whispered, "Sometimes I can't figure things out, but he can understand them just by looking at them for a few seconds."
"Really?"
"Yeah." After Wu Wei nodded, he noticed a hint of regret in the general manager's eyes, as if he was thinking, why is it Wu Wei who's in the company, not Shen Chang'an.
"Wu Wei." Shen Chang'an's fingers kept tapping on the keyboard. "I just found a code instruction that seems to be wrong, but I'm not sure if it's a problem with your company's code formula itself, or if it was maliciously modified."
"Can, can you fix it?" The general manager asked, peeking in from the doorway.
"I can, but it's very time-consuming. It takes a lot of effort to write a single line of code, let alone find the wrong formula, modify it, and make it perfectly compatible with the overall code." Shen Chang'an said without looking up. "This will require your company to arrange a few more technical personnel."
The general manager was a little disappointed. He thought Shen Chang'an would be like in the TV dramas, just press a few keys on the keyboard, and everything would be fine.
One look at the general manager's expression, and Shen Chang'an knew what he was thinking. He glanced at Wu Wei, who stood silently beside him. The leaders of this company not only liked to invite masters to exorcise evil spirits, but they also had rather grand ideas.
Wu Wei twitched his lips, pretending not to understand Shen Chang'an's gaze. This helplessness was like how people assumed he could fix computers, no matter how much he explained, it was useless.
"I've temporarily patched the loophole with a substitute formula, but this formula isn't perfect. If it runs for too long, it might malfunction again." Shen Chang'an had been busy for two or three hours. He shook his slightly stiff wrist and said to the general manager, "Find a skilled programmer as soon as possible within the next few days to help stabilize your work system. Otherwise, the situation will get worse."
"If you could…"
"General Manager, you might have forgotten, I'm a staff member of the Civil Service Department, not a programmer." Shen Chang'an walked out of Wu Wei's office and looked around the haunted office that automatically played horror videos. "Regarding the haunting in your company, I've taken a closer look. There are indeed no ghosts in your company, but some people might be pretending to be possessed."
"You mean..." Wu Wei and the general manager both turned pale. They looked at their colleagues, both male and female, who they had worked with day in and day out, feeling a bit uneasy. The person who had made the company like this, causing their company to be ridiculed by colleagues from other branches, was just watching quietly?
"Chang'an, are you sure it's not a ghost, but the computer system being maliciously tampered with?" Wu Wei still couldn't believe it.
"What else could it be? Do you want me to find a ghost?" Shen Chang'an shook his head. "That's too difficult a request. I can't do it."
Wu Wei: "..."
This tone... it was simply mercilessly mocking him.

"Sir?" Liu Mao had just opened the car door when he saw a flash in the back seat. Dao Nian appeared in the car.
"Sir, I'm going to pick up Mr. Shen now."
"I know." Dao Nian remained unmoved, his posture still lazy, as if even looking at Liu Mao for a moment would make him seem nervous.
"You are..." Liu Mao quickly realized, "You're going to pick up Mr. Shen yourself?"
"Don't talk nonsense. I'm just passing by." Dao Nian's expression was emotionless. "Don't make wild guesses. Just drive properly."
